"Designing, building, operating and maintaining the B-17 took a vast team of skilled people. Claire Egtvedt became known as the father of the B-17. Edward Wells played a key design role. Production was accomplished by a team of dedicated men and women. WASPs, Women Service Pilots, ferried the combat aircraft; aircrews and maintenance personnel were the users. Strategic bombardment leaders were: Major General Curtis E. LeMay, Lt. General James H. Doolittle, Major General Ira C. Eaker, Lt. General George C. Kenney, General Carl Tooey Spaatz and Major General Nathan F. Twining."
