Metal Gear Solid is an action-adventure stealth video game directed, produced and co-written by Hideo Kojima. The game was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and first published by Konami in 1998 for the PlayStation video game console. It is the sequel to Kojima's MSX2 computer game Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. The suffix Solid has several meanings. It not only references the game's protagonist, Solid Snake, but also alludes to the "solid" 3D graphics, and its placement as the third title in the series.
