Did the reflection thingy with watercolors on real paper and then scanned the whole thing. Made 3-4 different ones, put 2 of them on different layers (as you can see on the picture - the bigger one and the med-sized), set one or both of them to color dodge and then made a third layer on which I used a cloudbrush (from youtube tut) to paint the same shape yet again.
